Bangladesh is the 8th largest country with a young population of 48 million (age between 9 – 24 years) according to a report by United Nations Population Funds in 2014. Many of these are college and university students who can contribute in student learning and social awareness, literacy and adult learning program in rural areas, urban slums and poor neighborhood. Colleges and university can promote volunteering among students by redesigning their curriculum and coursework. Recently, volunteering and service learning have become a part of curriculum and coursework in western higher education. Service learning provides an opportunity for college and university students to apply their classroom knowledge for solving problems of the society. Service learning makes university students more responsible and connected to the society and develop leadership skills.
